Cape Byron is a 107 metre high rocky promontory at Australia’s most easterly point, it protects Byron Bay and the Cape Byron lighthouse stands tall upon its top.  The Lighthouse light, beams more than 40 km out to sea to warn sailors to beware of the treacherous coastline.   By night the lighthouse is Australia's most powerful beacon, by day the backdrop for hang gliders who soar in the thermals off the Cape.
